Not sure which tyres to fit on your caravan, motorhome or trailer? C tyres, RF tyres, XL tyres… There are many tyre types and it can be hard to choose. Load rating is an important factor, as is where and when you drive. Usually you also need a somewhat higher tyre pressure if you're carrying a heavier load. If you drive in winter, it's important that the tyres on the trailer work together with the car's tyres. If your car has studded tyres, the trailer must have studded tyres too. If your car has friction tyres, the trailer can have either friction tyres or studded tyres.

Common problems
Many caravans aren't used regularly and can sit unused for several years. If the tyres are old they can dry out and develop cracks, and the tread can also be worn. That's why it's extra important to inspect the tyres more carefully than just a quick glance over your shoulder. Even if the tread looks fine, a poor, old tyre can lead to trouble. We're happy to inspect your tyres for you.
If you know you won't be using the caravan for a while, and want to go easy on your vehicle, you can choose to remove the tyres and store them somewhere dry and cool, lying on their side or hung on a wall.
Which tyres apply?
Do you use the caravan during the winter half of the year too, or only in summer? That's a good question to ask, since the winter road-condition rules apply to caravans just like any other vehicle. That means it's mandatory to use winter tyres (studded or non-studded friction tyres) during the period 1 December–31 March, if winter road conditions apply. If you only use the caravan in summer and keep it in storage over winter, you obviously don't need winter tyres; summer tyres or perhaps ”all-season tyres” are enough. A car with non-studded tyres may tow a caravan fitted with either non-studded or studded winter tyres.

You'll find the exact information on how much your caravan is allowed to weigh in the vehicle's owner's manual. To find the right tyre dimension and load class for your vehicle, you should read it off the tyres already fitted; otherwise we recommend looking in the owner's manual for your vehicle.

Tyre pressure
Another important point for caravan tyres is the tyre pressure, which varies depending on the type of caravan you have. The problem with too little tyre pressure is that the caravan rolls unsteadily and can more easily start an uncontrollable swaying motion.
